![]() Hopefully Bethesda will patch out the bug soon, and stay tuned here to learn if there’s anything that can be done to either restore a lost save file, or get a refund at the very least. If the bug spreads, Fallout Shelter could go from a top-grossing Android title to something to avoid pretty quickly. As much as I’d like to see an endgame patched in to Fallout Shelter, this has to take priority. You can experience practically everything the game has to offer on day one, as there is no endgame other than simply growing your vault and multiplying your population.īut while those issues might be a matter of taste, the existence of a bug like this is a not-debatable problem with the game that has to be resolved. I hold both Bethesda and Fallout to high standards, and Fallout Shelter, despite a lack of gems and paywalls, is far too similar to so many of the other mindless mobile games we see out there. And as logic would dictate, maybe don’t pour loads of real-life dollars into the game until this issue is permanently resolved.Īnyone who hangs around my column will know that I haven’t been the biggest fan of Fallout Shelter since its launch. The common threads appear to be phones dying or being close to out of memory when the game is played, so keep your device charged and your hard drive (somewhat) not full to have the best chance of avoiding it. Regardless, this has to be a top priority, even if it’s a relatively niche issue right now.Īt this point, it seems like only preventative measures can be taken to prevent this bug, rather than any sort of cure if it happens. It’s unclear if this bug also exists in the iOS version of the game, as most of the reports I’m hearing about now are on the Android version.įallout Shelter is certainly not the first game to experience a bug like this, though seeing as Bethesda is new to the mobile scene, they may have a few more kinks to work through than most other developers. Needless to say, even if this is affecting a small number of users, if the potential is there for a progress-resetting, save-corrupting bug like this to exist, it may discourage other players from investing time or money into Fallout Shelter. I’ve yet to hear back (it’s Sunday, after all), but I’ll update this post if I hear any suggestions from them. I’ve reached out to Bethesda to see if they have any suggested recourse for those who have lost their save files, either by issuing a refund for purchases, or a way to restore lost saves (probably preferable for many players). ![]() When I was playing on iOS, I ended up spending about $40 (for science) and would have certainly been upset if that was all erased by a game-breaking glitch like this. That could be a few dollars, or hundreds, depending on the devotion of the player. From the complaints I’ve seen, many players have spent a good deal of money on lunchboxes, and this bug isn’t just erasing their vault-building progress, but all those items they paid real life money for. This would be a big deal for any progress-focused game, but many players have already spent money on Fallout Shelter’s “lunchboxes,” the game’s only form of microtransaction that doles out resources, gear and loot in exchange for real-world cash.
